How to Season Salad

Understanding Spices

Salads are a versatile and refreshing dish that can be enjoyed year-round. While fresh ingredients play a significant role in creating a delicious salad, the right combination of seasonings can elevate its flavours to new heights. Here we will explore how to season salads using a variety of our spicy products, including lemon myrtle, zahtar, sumac berries, nigella seeds, red chilli flakes and mixed herbs.

Lemon Myrtle:

Lemon myrtle, a native Australian spice, imparts a vibrant citrusy flavour to salads. It can be crushed and lightly sprinkled, paying attention not to overpower the other flavours. The zesty aroma and tangy taste of lemon myrtle will enhance the freshness which is perfect for a summer salad.

Zahtar:

Zahtar, a Middle Eastern spice blend, brings a distinct earthiness to salads. Our blend combines; sesame, sumac, thyme and sea salt. Making a great salad topping or perfect to mix with olive oil for a flavourful dressing. The unique blend of herbs and spices in zahtar adds depth and complexity, creating a harmonious fusion of flavours.

Sumac Berries:

Sumac berries, commonly used in Middle Eastern cuisine, offer a tangy and slightly fruity taste to salads. Our Sumac is already crushed which is ideal for scattering over a salad or you could flavour chicken or veg to lay over the salad leaves!

Nigella Seeds:

Nigella seeds, also known as kalonji, have a nutty and slightly bitter flavour. These small black seeds work great with potatoes and cucumber! Nigella seeds provide a unique texture and a subtle spiciness, making them an excellent addition to salads.

Red Chilli Flakes:

For those who enjoy a hint of heat, red chilli flakes are a fantastic option. These crushed dried chilli peppers add a fiery kick to your salad. Sprinkle them sparingly if you prefer milder heat or increase the amount for a bolder hot flavour. The spicy warmth of red chilli flakes adds excitement to your salad, balancing out other flavours and awakening the taste buds.

Mixed Herbs:

This herb medley adds a fresh and aromatic touch that complements various salad ingredients. Sprinkle the mixed herbs liberally over your salad, ensuring an even distribution of flavours. Ours contains Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano, Sage, Basil & Parsley so you can imagine the flavour!
